Here are a few ideas on how to make your home more accessible to your child and to promote independence:
–Accessible clothing options. Choose child sized furniture to store your child’s clothes in, and limit the amount of choices they have. Putting two to three weather appropriate outfits in their closet the night before will allow for your child to independently pick out their outfit in the morning.
–Easy clothing. Choose clothing that is easy to put on and take off. Pants with snaps vs. buttons, shoes with velcro vs. laces, shirts that stretch vs. buttons. This will make toileting easier too!

–Limit toys and trinkets. In a Montessori environment all materials are deliberate and purposeful. Although this can’t always be the case with toys, limiting the options available at a time will help your child in making a choice and cleaning up.
–Neutral colors. A pop of color can be fun in your child’s room or playroom, but be sure to pair it with neutral colors that encourages a feeling of calm and reduces the chance for distraction.
–Snacks at reach. Have a few snacks, that are easy to open, at your child’s reach. Include silverware, cups, plates & bowls!
–Child size silverware. Everything should be easy to hold in your child’s hands including silverware, cups, plates & bowls. Child size spoons & forks can be found at World Market and Ikea, but don’t forget to look for the “appetizer” silverware. Condiment cups from Cash & Carry are great child size cups for children under the age of two. Older children can use smaller glass cups.
–Eat what you grow!
–Set up the bathroom.

A really lovely idea. I have two young children and I think this is going to help me a lot in education them. I'll share this with a few friends of mine who recently became mothers haha.
